...................................Prayer...................................
Good and
generous Lord,
You have once more brought the year
full circle, through planting and growing and
ripening to harvest time, and autumn.
We thank You for the sun and the
wind, the rain and the dew, the minerals of the
earth and all the plants that grow and all the
beasts and birds of farm and field. We marvel at
Your wonderful ways of bringing food from the earth
for man's good.
Help us to use Your rich
gifts as You want us to. Teach us to share them with
our neighbor when he is in need. Make us see, in the
marvelous succession of seasons, and in the growth
and ripening of our crops, the merciful, generous
hand of Your divine providence. In Your most
Holy Name.
Amen.

...Eating up the End of
Summer
Recently, while sitting and
watching the boys swim, I've noticed that the air off the water holds a
touch of autumn in it. I love autumn and don't feel melancholy as
some parents do, probably because I homeschool and so I don't have that
sadness of them leaving to attend school.
I've been scheduling classes for them this fall/winter. They'll continue
with their fall
sailing class and attend some homeschooling classes at the
MD
Science Center, where they will learn about DNA, archeology,
astronomy and creepy crawlies. Plus they will be taking a computer
keyboarding class, along with various field trips to
farms,
factories
and other
places of
interest. At Ski Liberty we'll add the joys of
snow tubing
especially since they just added a Kiddie Tubing Area where Quinn will
be able to play to his heart's content. He loves the snow.
We'll be vacationing in the
Smoky Mountains next week and I've been digging up information on
the the area's offerings of
horseback
riding,
white water
rafting and biking. We'll also go to
Dollywood Amusement
and
Waterparks. Michael, my
geeky,
very sedentary husband, thinks I'm wishing an early demise for him and
am after the insurance money but the boys are really looking forward to
our
vacation...and so am I. I am a bit sad though because Sean
will be staying home this time. At eighteen, he doesn't want to
vacation with us. Instead, he will be keeping an eye on the dog
and cat for us and my sister, Honey, who lives next door,
will be keeping an eye on him and our house. *smile*
With the
end of summer quickly approaching, I've been trying to eat as many
garden fresh veggies and fruits as I can while they are so ripe and
luscious. I'm really going to miss fresh cucumbers and tomatoes in
my salad and really sweet tasting pears, melons, peaches and berries.
*smile*
